4th IoT Security Conference

ENISA, Europol and CERT-EU are co-organising a series of webinars to raise awareness on the security  of the Internet of Things (IoT). The conference aims to enable a broad discussion by bringing together experts from cybercrime units, CSIRTs, international organisations, private industry, regulatory agencies, and academia.

Each webinar will have an approximate duration of  1.5 hours and will open with a keynote speech followed by a panel discussion. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with the panel and ask questions on the discussion topics through a web conferencing tool.

Session 2: Artificial Intelligence

Artificial intelligence (AI) is at the heart of the so-called 4th industrial revolution and promises greater efficiency, higher levels of automation and autonomy. AI is intrinsically a dual use technology: while it can bring enormous benefits to society, AI can also enable a range of digital, physical and political threats. Therefore, we need to understand the risks and potential criminal abuse of AI systems to protect against malicious actors.

For instance, criminals could make use of AI to facilitate and improve their attacks by maximising opportunities for profit in a shorter time, exploiting new victims, and creating more innovative criminal business models, while reducing the chances of being caught. At the same time, AI can also be (part of) the answer to challenges faced by law enforcement in the execution of criminal investigation, namely information processing and other parts of policing.

This webinar discusses AI from a comprehensive perspective, by reflecting on both the potential risks, introduction of new threats, etc. as well as the potential benefits from a law enforcement perspective in terms of the ability to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of criminal investigations.
