ENISA as part of its Work Programme 2009 is currently working on the security and resilience of public e-Communication networks and services in Europe with a view to to develop guidelines and good practices. The overall objective is to collectively evaluate and improve the security and resilience of networks and services in Europe.

ENISA activities in the area of resilience are divided into three parts focussing on legal aspects, providers’ measures, and technologies. In the context of activities focusing on providers’ measures, ENISA established a virtual group of experts from key providers/operators which has been charged with identifying challenges and emerging issues associated with resilience. Moreover, with the help of a contractor, ENISA is also preparing guidelines to make European networks more resilient.

On 29th October in Paris at France Telecom premises, ENISA presented the outcome of aforementioned work on resilience challenges and guidelines to the community stakeholders in form of a small, targeted workshop on providers’ measures. Objectives of the workshop are twofold:

  • to discuss ENISA findings, proposals for good practices, and proposed draft guidelines as well as
  • to validate findings by means of receiving feedback, comments and additional input from participants.

The European Commission will present its policies and communications on Critical Information Infrastructure Protection (CIIP).

Various Providers associations from all over Europe are invited to the event to present their opinions and views on the issue of resilience and associated best practices.
