Smart Home Environments implement the concept of the “Internet of Things”: they comprises multiple devices with different purposes, interconnected to the personal “home network” and to the Internet. These devices collect and exchange data among themselves and with third-party service providers in order to enhance the functionalities of the home (e.g. reduced energy consumption, dynamic heating…). They can also be controlled remotely and adapt their behaviour dynamically.
Smart Home Environments involve multiple stakeholders that rely on third-party technologies and components. For that purpose, ENISA aims at securing Smart Home Environments and increasing their resilience against cyber threats by promoting security by design, i.e. the integration of security at every stage of the lifecycle of IoT products and services.
