'Security week' pilots

As foreseen in the EU-US Summit final report and in the roadmap produced by the EU-US Working Group on Awareness raising, ‘Security week’ pilots had run in 2012 and will be in 2013 culminating in a fully fledged EU and US Security month by 2014

‘Security week’ pilots had run during October 2012. These pilots were an effective instrument to raising awareness about Network and Information Security challenges and in particular to:

  • Generate awareness about Network and Information Security
  • Involve relevant stakeholders
  • Disseminate security information.

Get involved

There are several ways you can get involved in the European Cyber Security Month (ECSM).

Become a piloting country

After having published a call of expression of interest for organising 'Security week' pilots, the following Member States were selected:

The countries were asked to organise events to raise citizens’ information security awareness at national level and eventually to be
deployed regionally for at least one week. The Member State  decided upon the scope and number of activities and events to be organised. ENISA provided guidance and expertise on how to organise information security campaigns together with tips and advice on how to be safe online. Moreover, the Agency provided promotional material to the Member States to help promote awareness messages. When possible ENISA helped also identifying speakers for events held.

Support the ECSM

Being a champion is a way for you to officially show your support for the ECSM. Being a champion is easy and does not require any financial support.

To support the ECSM, your organisation will be asked to participate by reaching and educating customers, citizens, employees and communities through events, activities and/or other campaign distribution methods.

The 2012 ECSM champions are listed below:

  • Council of the European Union

The General Secratariat of the Council of the European Union distributed a leaflet entitled "Seven Fatal Blunders when Social Networking" to coincide with the ECSM (FR version). This initiative was part of the GSC's Peace of Mind series and was designed to raise information security awareness amongst staff. This was accompanied by an internal campaign highlighting the ECSM's inititative to raise information security awareness across Europe.

  • National CERT of Latvia (CET.LV)

Attend an event

A range of local activities and events will be held throughout the ECSM across Europe. To read more on the schedule and activities of each Member State, please click on the above links or access the 2012 ECSM events calendar.
